1955 Gibson Southern Jumbo
CITES Article 10 Certificate #554128/03
An exceptional guitar in every way: sonically it is extremely articulate and sophisticated, unlike most SJ's which tend to be bright and hard driving. Structurally it is perfect in every way, being all original. With a FON of Y 6606 which is for 1953 yet with an adjustable bridge mechanism which is first seen in 1954, we have a late finished guitar that probably sat in the factory for a year or two before final assembly and finish. It clearly was set aside for one reason or another and fit back into the process at a later date. Not an uncommon thing for Gibson. It is one of the most playable examples that I've owned and is a true songwriters instrument. Beautiful sunburst finish over a very open grained sitka spruce top and solid mahogany rims and back give it all it needs to be a most desirable guitar from any perspective.
