1936 C.F. Martin C-2 Conversion 000-42

The Martin archtop of the 30's was not only a marketing failure but it wasn't a successful musical instrument, so there weren't a lot of them made.  The ones that were made have almost all been converted to flattop instruments and why not considering the rims and back are all of the finest brazilian wood ever available.......and this is the best example that I've seen or played.  What an amazing machine.  Ancient Brazilian Rosewood body and mahogany neck with Martin's "new" pearl vertical headstock logo and a fine Adirondack Spruce top with forward shifted scalloped bracing and pearl bindings in the style of the D-42. The work was carried out by TJ Thompson of Concord, Ma., a man who is considered the best luthier for this conversion and the work is flawless.

Musically, it's a triumph !  Huge resonance and long, lingering sustain with that great Martin swell eminating from the soundhole at every turn.  No contemporary instruments can come close to the quality and level of musical acuity that these early Martins have and this one has it in spades.  A brilliant composition !!
