1968 Gibson J-185 Everly Brothers
This model from any year of it's production is difficult to source and this one is from the first year of the blonde finish. Laminate maple back and rims with a solid sitka spruce top and 3 piece mahogany neck, it is a total rythum machine. Having a serial number of 960686 but with no "Made in USA" stamp to the back of the headstock and with the pre-Norlin label, it slots in as among the first batch of this spec model.
Designed to provide background rythum work and to accompany singer-songwriters, it does that job brillianty. Dry and thumpy with sharp, immediate reply and a driving response, it provides a great sound to write music to and to record. Learning to understand the 50's thru 60s maple laminates is an exercise of it's own, but once you get some exposure to this construction method you start to realize they are quite unique and mostly incredible machines. This is no different and does it's intended job very well.
