1937 C.F. Martin D-18
So rare are these shade top D-18s that they compete with chicken lips for scarcity. An old gal that has seen the road for a good length of her time on this rock. Mahogany rims and back with a mahogany neck, Adirondack top and ebony board and bridge, the magic combination. Sonically, it's so complete. Still crisp and extremely responsive but with all the maturity and warmth on could ask for. Fully scalloped bracing forward shifted which was to end in 1939, which allows much more movement to the top and combined with the ebony board and bridge proves to be the Golden Era moment. The shade top in this tone is quite rare and has the appeal of butterscotch. The inside is unmolested and there is a patch to the upper treble bout, which resulted many years ago in the rims being oversprayed slightly off color to the back. A few other cracks but the top is crack free. Original tuners in the case with a set of origial spec mounted and a replaced guard and bridge.....all to be expected..... and otherwise, she's in fine fettle. Rare instruments do come and go.....this one probably won't come again.
