1948 C.F. Martin D-18
CITES A10 Certificate #553385/01
A cleaner and better sounding late 40s' D-18 would be very difficult indeed to find. This is one gorgeous instrument. All original with almost no playwear, it has solid mahogany rims and back with a solid spruce top, mahogany neck and Brazilian rosewood board and bridge. Crack free other than a very tight and short "B" string crack behind the pickguard. Finish is clear with a lovely amount of craqeuleur and a few bruises here and there. This is a year where Martin was using a top toner and the colour has become very rich and carmel-like. Beautiful.
Sonically, it is fat, woody and rich with a real punch when hit but with a beguiling and subtle harmonics when treated with a gently hand. Fingerpicks as well as flatpicks, it is the classic workhorse all rounder. Harder and harder to find, especially in this country.
